Even when the weather cools down on the Grand Strand, the Myrtle Beach area’s events calendar is typically still loaded with hot events. Take January, for example — while still not especially frigid by most other locations’ standards, it’s Myrtle Beach’s coldest month of the year based on temperature averages. Consider this small sampling of area functions set to add some excitement on the Grand Strand events scene this January:

Grand Strand Boat and Sportsman Expo

Set to be held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, the Grand Strand Boat and Sportsman Expo will celebrate its 40th year presenting boat shows during its January 5-7 run in 2024. Fishing and boating seminars will be held on each of the event’s three days, and the show’s long list of vendors and boat dealers will have their wares on display.

SOS Mid-Winter Break

Held in North Myrtle Beach January 11-14, 2024, the Society of Stranders Mid-Winter Break/Winter Workshop will see Shag-dance enthusiasts from far and wide gather at a collection of local lounges for food, socializing, workshops — and of course lots of beach music and dancing! The Carolina Shag is a partner dance that originated on the Grand Strand during the 1940s, so the Myrtle Beach area is an epicenter for celebrating the storied history of the cultural phenomenon.

Restaurant Week South Carolina

Serving up plenty of food and fun January 11-21, 2024, Restaurant Week South Carolina is an 11-day celebration held throughout the Palmetto State that puts a focus on South Carolina’s stellar restaurant scene. With participating restaurants including everything from casual eateries to fine-dining establishments, as well as an array of cuisine types, the event sees the state’s chefs debut new menu items, serve up fan favorites and serve special, multi-course meals — and the Grand Strand’s offerings are sure to delight visiting diners.

National Shag Dance Championships Preliminaries

As the longest continuously running Shag-dance contest in the U.S., the National Shag Dance Championships are celebrating their 40th year in 2024 — and all the qualifying round action will swing and sway into North Myrtle Beach January 26-27, 2024. This year’s event calendar will include Shaggin’ With the Stars on Friday, January 26, and the Champions Mixed Doubles event on Saturday, January 27.

Live Shows at the Alabama Theater

A long-running local-favorite venue for live performances on the Grand Strand, the Alabama Theatre in North Myrtle Beach will be bringing showstoppers to its stage every weekend throughout the month of January. The presentations on tap for the month include Gail Bliss & the Nashville Barn Dance, The Lettermen, The Next Big Live Tour, the Let’s Hang On Frankie Valli Tribute, Tapestry, the Carole King Songbook and comedian James Gregory.
