There’s no limit to the fun you can have off-season on the coast. Here’s some advice for packing to be ready for anything.

Accessorize

You’ll need a hybrid of cold- and warm-weather clothing. How to tie it all together? Accessories. Fun patterns in scarves or a necklace do the trick.

Cover up

Wear short sleeves and shorts, but bring cotton or wool pants when the air gets chilly. Long-sleeved shirts and hoodies do the same. Bring wool socks!

Don’t forget the bag

Even if it’s for a beach blanket and your beach read, it’s easier to transport in a bag. Bring snacks and a drink. And a baggie for the shells you’ll find.

Myrtle Beach Bowl: You’ll love this fun place to compete and socialize for a couple of hours. Family-friendly with rates for seniors, too.

Pro tip: For women, it’s 11-12 pounds. For men, 14-15. Try for holes a bit larger than your ring size, and switch balls if it’s not a good grip after a throw or two.

2. Dancing

This will get your blood to circulate! It’s great stress relief and boosts your mood. Shake it on the Grand Strand!

3001 NIGHTLIFE: You’ll have a ball in three clubs in one. It’s a welcoming atmosphere where you can dance the night away.
Club Envy. Great DJs, and awesome vibes. Large dance floor, and a booming sound system. You have to check out the VIP booth.

Pro tip: Dress smart. Killer heels are great for a night of elegant dining, but not the best choice for the dance floor. Go with flats or sneakers.

3. Visiting Downtown Conway

You’ve got to hand it to this little town. It’s always a good trip, no matter the season! Bonus points if you wear your Chanticleers teal.

Classy Collections: It’s a tiny shop with loads of incredible fashion and buys. Accessories, bags, shoes … buy local in Conway.

Caribbean Jerk Cuisine: You’ll enjoy unforgettable food and great conversation. Authentic Jamaican food at its finest.

Pro tip: Treat yourself to a cultural experience at the historic Theatre of the Republic. You’re in for great performances from local talent!

4. Heading to a Farm

Farms near the Grand Strand bring a refreshing brand of character to a beach trip. Especially for kids, but also adults, it’s a fun and educational trip.

Where to go

Freewoods Farm: Buy fresh produce, sugar cane serum, and more, in season. Take a tour and see the livestock and nature trail onsite.

Thompson Farm & Nursery: Lots of activities for the kids! Enjoy hayrides, a petting zoo, and new things to do all the time.

Pro tip: Come dressed for the weather — and for the unexpected. Farm life is fun, but it can get messy. Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes, and bring water.

5. Cruise the Boardwalk

Discover the magic of the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk without the big crowds and summer heat. Enjoy the shops and restaurants right by the shore.

New York Pizza Kitchen: Cruise in off Ocean Boulevard for pizza by the slice and other swift snacks. Grab a hot dog and cold beer too.

Carolina Country Music Awards: On Jan. 21, head to the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach for this event.

Pro tip: Late isn’t fashionable. Some places might close the door at a certain time, a total bummer if you’ve bought tickets in advance.

7. Perusing Educational Attractions

It’s easy to fix fun and learning in the same equation. Hands-on experiences are a great way to show your kids a great time AND teach them something.

Where to go

EdVenture Myrtle Beach: There’s a grocery store, a space climber, a performance stage, and more.

Hobcaw Barony: The discovery center tells the ecological and historical history of this unique region. Tours and programs are available.

Pro tip: Stay close to your kids, and engage them in learning. Ask questions about displays and what they’re doing, but also, let them play and explore.
